Telling the story in pictures, the storyboard

Détail du cours

To understand the storyboard as a comic strip and to make it exist as such and give it the status of a work in itself.

The reading of this storyboard is less linear than a classic comic strip, since it is subject to unfinished drawings, scattered notes, multidirectional arrows, etc.

The workshop consists in reflecting, on the one hand, on the drawing as a transitory object, questioning the rhythm of the hand, and on the other hand, on the sequence as a montage, questioning the temporality manufactured by an arrangement of images and texts. Each session will lead to the following questions: what place does the subject occupy in the frame? What is the movement of the character? What is the movement of the fictional camera? In addition to the drawing, textual information will be used to provide important details, indicative pictograms, a map to help understand the movements, or a representation of the characters and settings present in the sequence.

At the end of the session, the story will be printed and bound at Beaux-Arts de Paris, and each student will receive a copy.
