Joseph Kosuth, a major figure of conceptual art, dialogues with Jacinto Lageira, professor of aesthetics, about the relationship of art to language and philosophy.

This discussion will be followed by a signature by the artist of the Jeu du Dicible, published by Beaux-Arts de Paris éditions.

Joseph Kosuth, born in 1945 in the United States, is one of the main theorists and actors of conceptual art. He reflects on art in its relationship to language and philosophy.

In 1969, he published Art After Philosophy: he plans to "invent new meanings for art", rejects all ideas of aestheticism and formalism and refers in particular to the writings of Wittgenstein. A member of the Art & Langage group from 1969 to 1973, he then represented its American branch and co-edited their magazine The Fox.
He is also a teacher, critic and lecturer and sees his work as an "investigation of art".

Jacinto Lageira is professor of aesthetics at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

The discussion will be held in English.
