The Inner Show - Big Dumb Object

The Inner Show, a proposal by Big Dumb Object that will take place Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17 from 1 to 7 pm.

As part of the CRÛ exhibition at the Théâtre des Expostions Act 3

On November 18, 2020, a shimmering metal monolith several meters high is discovered in Utah, USA. On November 27, a triangular prism of the same type appears in the north of Romania, before disappearing four days later. These appearances continued on December 2 in California and on December 6 in the Netherlands and the southern United Kingdom.

Big Dumb Object, a brand founded by Lucas Poirey, refers to these mystical objects that appear by chance. Based on the Big Dumb Object conceptualized by Roz Kaveney in his science fiction stories and the MacGuffin, its equivalent theorized by Alfred Hitchcock, Lucas Poirey exploits the erotic potential of these plot subjects. These conceptual, furtive and sometimes abstract objects are incorporated into his collection of experimental sex toys. She mixes codes at the intersection of the sexual toy, the sensory arousal toy and the coercive tool. By processes of reversal, it tests the reversibility of techniques of self-discipline to emancipate itself from it.

It reacts to the deep inhibition and frustration of our bodies, however overstimulated by the mass imagery maintaining them in a state of anesthesia. This libidinal merchant circuit relies on props, allowing to discharge the stress they provoke and cultivate. In this context, the capitalized anxiety is channeled by Fidget Toys, Worry Objects or other tools that make the subject loyal by feeding his manias. Lucas Poirey seizes this material and semantic arsenal to identify the unhealthy part of conventional forms of personal development. As a critical device, his brand subverts the balance that contains the agitation of infantilized bodies.

The act of penetration operates on several levels: in the body and its heteronormative principles as well as in e-commerce and the hygienist white cube. Lucas Poirey encapsulates his identity as well as the nature of his work by passing from his online sales site to the exhibition space. His commercial double allows him to propagate ambiguous objects, playful and harmless, parodic and obedient.
