Abdelkader Benchamma, finalist for the Marcel Duchamp Prize 2024

The 24th edition of the Prix Marcel Duchamp 2024 has just announced the names of the 4 finalists: Abdelkader Benchamma, a 2003 graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, Gaëlle Choisne, Noémie Goudal and the duo Detanico & Lain.

Born in 1975 in Mazamet (France), Abdelkader Benchamma lives and works in Paris and Montpellier. Benchamma's preferred medium is black-and-white drawing. Varying his graphic approaches, he sometimes approaches the sheet of paper with the meticulous strokes of an engraver, and sometimes the wall with a generous gesture that makes the space his own. The material escapes the frame in an organic growth. Nourished by literature, philosophy, astrophysics and esoteric reflections, his environments implement visual scenarios that question our relationship with reality, probing the boundaries with the invisible.
He is represented by Galerie Templon (Paris) and ADN Galeria (Barcelona).

The Marcel Duchamp Prize is awarded by the Association pour la Diffusion Internationale de l'Art Français (Adiaf) to highlight the richness of the French art scene. Its aim is to distinguish and promote internationally the most representative artists of their generation.
